How much mulch do I need for my project?

  • Measure the length and width of your project area in feet.

  • Determine how deep you want the mulch laid (typically 2-4 inches)

  • Plug the length, width and depth of your project area into our calculator to determine how many cubic yards your project will require.

TIP: When deciding the depth for your mulch, a general rule is to maintain a 2 to 3-inch layer of mulch after settling.  With this in mind, you may want to start with a 4-inch layer over newly covered areas.

  • Offers a tidy and well-maintained appearance.

  • Can inhibit weed growth.

  • Slows water evaporation allowing for less frequent watering.

  • Improves the soils structure as it decomposes.

  • Provides ideal environment for earthworms to thrive which also improves soil quality.

Tips for Weed Control

  • Prepare the area you are covering by removing as many weeds as possible prior to install.

  • For especially weed prone areas, use a double-mulching strategy by adding a layer of newspaper or cardboard to smother existing weeds.

  • Keep the mulched area hydrated to facilitate the decomposition process which will aid in weed suppression.
